Sailed to "America" in 1622 on the ship, the "Abigail".

He married an unknown person in England, about 1614. Genealogy of the Brownings in America from 1621 to 1908 by Edward Franklin Browning page 443 #1651 Born in England about 1588. He came to America in the "Abigail", in 1622, having sailed from Gravesend, England, and landed on College Lands, and settled in Elizabeth City, Virginia. He is supposed to have been the brother of William Browning. He was married in England about 1614, and had a number of children among whom were William Browning and George Browning. William was born in England about 1615, and George Browning was born in England about 1614. This John Browning was generally known as Capt John. He served as a Burgess in Elizabeth City in 1629 and in the same year he purchased 250 acres of land. He is mentioned in a deed recorded in 1646 to his son William Browning. He is also mentioned as a Burgess of Morris Bay in 1632 and a Burgess of Elizabeth City in 1635. In 1638 He purchased for 3,000 pounds of tobacco, all lands lying in Mounds Bay and belonging to Thomas Grindon. Among his children were: 1654. George born about 1614 1653. William born about 1615. This Capt. John Browning was the founder of one of the oldest and first families of Virginia. The plantation on which he lived is from three to four miles from Williamsburg, which latter place is about five miles from Jamestown.
