General Notes: Shortly after the Civil War (1865) Sarah Hughes married a Mr. Hamilton, thought to be from the North, when Jacksonville, Florida was occupied. Family history is that Sarah and Mr. Hamilton went back north to Maryland and went by covered wagon to St. Louis, Missouri. On the trip to Missouri Sarah became pregnant and her husband became ill and died in St. Louis, Missouri. Her son William E. Hamilton was born August 13, 1867. Sarah decided to return to Florida with her son William Eli Hamilton. She traveled by steamboat to New Orleans where she caught a train to Jacksonville, Florida. After returning to Jacksonville she married Chapman L. Oliver on April 23, 1871. Sarah married ? Hamilton. Sarah next married Chapman Lonnie Oliver, son of Charles A.L.B. Oliver and Mary M. Capps, on Apr 23, 1871. (Chapman Lonnie Oliver was born on Mar 17, 1851 in Florida and died on Jul 17, 1926 in Baldwin, Duval County, Florida.) |
